In linguistics, the issue of synonymous words has been studied for many centuries. Synonymous dictionaries, which are their generalization, explain words that are phonetically and orthographically different, but are similar or close in meaning. It would be correct to call such a definition of synonymous dictionaries a one-sided definition. This article examines the general structure and development of dictionaries of synonyms in linguistics, as well as the criteria for selecting words in it, the composition and placement of dictionary parts.
