This article examines how bilingual and multilingual speakers use code-switching to navigate different language systems. Based on qualitative research, it explores code-switching as a means of social adaptation, cultural expression, and language negotiation. Additionally, the study highlights the broader sociopolitical and psychological implications of code-switching in a diverse society. This article aims to investigate the phenomenon of code-switching as a fundamental aspect of contact linguistics. More specifically, it will focus on how bilingual and multilingual speakers employ various types of code-switching, including intersentential and tag-switching, to meet social, functional, and pragmatic needs. To illustrate how code-switching serves as a dynamic expressive tool for interpreting meaning, conveying identity, and adapting to different conversational contexts, this assignment seeks to clarify how code-switching operates. For methodology, the research makes use of a qualitative approach that is founded on real-world instances and cases from a variety of multilingual groups anywhere in the world. It combines a sociocultural viewpoint to investigate the role that language plays in the formation of social identities, interpersonal relationships, and cultural values. It focuses on how individuals make purposeful language choices that are impacted by social settings, such as the setting, the audience, and wider political-economic considerations. As a conclusion, code-switching is an example of the linguistic adaptability of speakers who are bilingual or multilingual. It serves in addition as a structural language phenomenon, but additionally as an ongoing means of conveying cultural identity and maintaining social contact. It highlights the fact that language serves as both a tool for communication and a vehicle for expressing complex social meanings, hence highlighting the significance of comprehending code-switching within the context of its larger sociocultural and linguistic background.
