This article discusses the issue of developing professional competencies of foreign language teachers in non-philological areas. The article analyzes the process of teaching professional texts in English on the basis of communicative, linguistic, methodological and professional components of education. The stages of the mechanism and technique of reading, as well as methods for developing reading skills, are covered in detail. The importance of teaching students to read and understand foreign language texts based on professional needs and the need to gradually complicate the criteria for selecting texts and educational materials are also substantiated.
