This study is devoted to the analysis of the compositional and plot organization of Anton Chekhov's vaudevilles from the point of view of their microcosmic nature. The paper examines the structural components of Chekhov's vaudeville as an integral artistic system, in which the key features of the writer's dramatic technique are concentrated. Based on the analysis of the plays «The Bear», «The Proposal» and «The Jubilee» the author identifies specific techniques for organizing dramatic material that were later developed in Chekhov's «big» dramaturgy. The results of the study demonstrate that the vaudeville works of the writer represent a unique microcosm in which the transformation of the classical vaudeville genre and the formation of innovative principles of Chekhov's drama are taking place.
