This article reveals the specific features of managing higher education institutions by analyzing existing national legislation. Particular attention is given to the issue of granting the sector broad autonomy and freedom. Additionally, it raises the issue of adapting the fundamental aspects of granting academic independence to state higher education institutions to meet modern requirements. It also addresses the relationship between educational institutions and the state bodies that regulate the sector, as well as the organization of management based on foreign experience. Finally, proposals and recommendations are made regarding the directions for future scientific research.
