Annotatsiya

This article examines the crisis of the “efficiency-first” paradigm that dominated the global economic system in the early twenty-first century and the subsequent transformation of global supply chains (GSCs) from the perspective of neorealist theory. The author argues that during the previous phase of globalization, economic efficiency, low-cost production, and the deep integration of transnational trade networks constituted the primary drivers of global economic interaction. The article demonstrates how semiconductors, energy resources, food commodities, and logistics corridors have evolved from ordinary market goods into strategic assets, illustrated by the U.S.–China competition in the semiconductor sector and the Russia–European Union energy relationship. Furthermore, the concepts of “weaponized interdependence,” reshoring, nearshoring, and friend-shoring are analyzed in connection with the fragmentation of the global economic space and the emergence of geo-economic bloc formation. A key contribution of the article lies in its assessment of the implications of global supply chain instability for Uzbekistan’s economic security. In this context, the paper substantiates Uzbekistan’s potential to emerge as a regional manufacturing and logistics hub in Central Asia while emphasizing the necessity of strengthening national energy and food security amid increasing global economic uncertainty.
