The article provides a scientific analysis of the issues related to the duration of arrest and detention, as well as the periods of detention during preliminary investigations and inquiries. The author has conducted an in-depth study of the developmental trends in foreign legislation concerning the institution of procedural terms associated with preventive detention measures, as well as the requirements for detention periods in national legislation. The research addresses problematic situations observed in law enforcement practice and develops scientifically-based proposals and recommendations for resolving these issues. Furthermore, important conclusions have been formulated regarding the optimization of detention periods, with the aim of improving current criminal procedure legislation from the perspective of protecting individual rights.
