The article examines the role of religion in the social, political, cultural, and spiritual life of medieval European society. Particular attention is paid to the influence of the Catholic Church on the formation of education, moral values, and social cohesion. The significance of religious institutions in the development of European civilization is highlighted. Using the examples of the Inquisition and the Crusades, the article analyzes the Church’s position as a political force. It explores the functions of religion not only as a system of belief, but also as a tool of social governance and cultural integration.
