The lecture is devoted to the analysis of the transition of the concept of "freedom" from the sphere of theoretical reflections to the plane of practical implementation. It is shown that the French Revolution brought not only changes in the social system, but also made a revolution in concepts: freedom moved from the sphere of moral philosophy to the political sphere and, filled with new content, became one of the most significant institutions of society. The role of representatives of different directions of philosophical and political thought in this process is highlighted.
