The article is devoted to the analysis of the so-called fake news, which is understood as deliberately unreliable socially significant information, deliberately disseminated under the guise of reliable messages in order to obtain financial or political gain. An overview of existing points of view on the problem of fake news is presented. The reasons and forms of using fake news for mass disinformation have been identified. The role of artificial intelligence in the creation of various fakes is explored. The social consequences of using media for mass disinformation are shown.
