The article examines the main tasks and functions of investigative units in the process of solving crimes in the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as their significance in the context of modernizing criminal procedure legislation. The author emphasizes the role of investigative-operational groups as an organizational mechanism that ensures prompt and effective response to crime reports. Legal gaps in the current legislation regulating the activities of such groups are analyzed, and proposals are put forward to improve cooperation between investigators and operational officers. Special attention is paid to the role of the investigator as the responsible coordinator for conducting a complete and objective preliminary investigation, as well as issues of their procedural independence and coordination of actions among the investigative-operational group participants. The scientific basis relies on the opinions of Uzbek and foreign legal scholars, as well as the Criminal Procedure Codes of Uzbekistan and Russia.
