This article explores cyberbullying as a qualitatively new form of adolescent victimization in the digital environment. Drawing on a comparative criminological review of international and national studies published between 2018 and 2024, it juxtaposes the prevalence and mechanisms of online and offline bullying and identifies key risk factors—time spent online, digital literacy, and socio‑demographic attributes. Findings show that cyberbullying has reached parity with, and in some countries surpassed, traditional bullying. Uzbekistan’s PISA‑2022 data indicate that one in six students regularly experiences victimization, which coincides with notable academic losses. The paper highlights features unique to cyberspace—offender anonymity, unlimited audiences, and round‑the‑clock access—that intensify psychological harm, including anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation. Current prevention practices are reviewed: digital‑literacy education, school zero‑tolerance policies, family monitoring, and platform‑level controls. The study argues for a multi‑layered strategy integrating government, tech companies, schools, and families, and calls for the development of “cyber‑victimology” as a distinct criminological sub‑field to build evidence‑based models for early detection and holistic rehabilitation.
