This article discusses genetics, a science focused on the study of the material basis of heredity and variation. This includes the analysis of the substance of heredity—DNA molecules, the study of how genetic material is packaged in cells, and its transmission across generations, as well as the structure and mutations of genes, types of inheritance, basic informational processes, and other related topics. Among the branches of genetics, human genetics holds a leading position. Areas devoted to human pathology fall under the scope of medical genetics. The article also considers methods used in human genetics to diagnose and support the treatment of chromosomal, genetic, and multifactorial diseases through medical genetic counseling.
