This article discusses current issues of conducting preliminary investigations in criminal cases. In the world practice of criminal proceedings, the preliminary investigation is considered as a mandatory procedure, in which special attention is paid to maintaining reasonable deadlines, effectively organizing the investigation, completing the criminal case, and transferring it to court. This emphasizes the need to improve the institution of preliminary investigation in the national criminal procedural system by modern trends.
