The article deals with the issues of ensuring the basic guarantees of institutional and functional activity of advocacy and legal profession, enshrined in the updated Constitution of Uzbekistan. The special role of advocacy and legal profession, as the most important institution of the legal system and civil society, in ensuring the right of citizens to professional defense, in strengthening the rule of law, in ensuring adversarial and equal rights of the parties at all stages of legal proceedings and in the effective functioning of the justice system, as a whole, is accentuated. The principles of legality, independence and self-governance, on which the activity of the legal profession is based, are analyzed, the constitutional basis of guarantees of advocacy activity is disclosed, taking into account their correlation with international standards and norms. The necessity of bringing the norms of the current legislation regulating the activities of the Bar and lawyers, including procedural ones, into strict compliance with the updated Constitution of the country is emphasized.
