Identifying the Advantages of Simulation-Based Teaching of Environmental and Biological Sciences (A Case Study of Students at Tashkent State Medical University)

The article identifies the advantages of teaching ecological and biological knowledge to future physicians through simulation-based learning based on three empirical criteria: the magnitude of gain, the quality of outcomes, and the stability of the effect. The study involved 260 students enrolled in general medicine, paediatrics, and dentistry programmes at Tashkent State Medical University (TSMU). A pretest–posttest design with a control group was employed, and the groups were comparable at baseline (72.2% vs. 71.7%; p = 0.33). The gain was 12.0 ± 4.3% with simulation-based teaching and 6.8 ± 2.9% with traditional teaching (p < 0.001; Cohen’s d = 1.43); the baseline-adjusted net effect was 5.4% (95% CI: 4.5–6.2). In the experimental group, 53.4% of students reached the “excellent” level, compared with 3.1% in the control group. The effect was equally evident across all three programmes (d = 1.34–1.57) and at different baseline levels. The results provide an evidence base for introducing simulation-based learning into the teaching of fundamental biomedical disciplines.
