The article presents a critical analysis of the conditions for the applicability of statistical methods insports and pedagogical research. It is substantiated that correct statistical inference requires considerationof the type of scale, the nature of the distribution, the sample size, and the design of the pedagogicalexperiment. It is shown that the widespread assumption that nonparametric tests have higher power insmall samples is valid only for certain types of distributions. Requirements for calculating effect sizeare formulated with regard to the context of a particular sport, and an analysis protocol is proposedthat includes a priori power estimation and visualization of scientific data. Modern approaches to theanalysis of longitudinal data, including linear mixed models and single-subject designs, are considered,as well as an alternative to classical p-values – probabilistic inferences based on effect size.
