Techno-typological classification of the stone industry of the karangudara site in the boysun valley

Annotatsiya

This article examines the study of the newly discovered Karangudara site in the Boysun mountainous region. The discovery and introduction into scholarly discussion of stone artefacts found at this site enriches the prehistory of Southern Uzbekistan. A characteristic feature of the Karangudara industry the presence of materials attributable to both the middle and upper paleolithic, but also the intensive reuse of artefacts from the early complex in the later period. The stone industry of the site differs from other contemporary assemblages with the widespread use of bifacial reduction techniques. The edges of the thick flakes obtained in Karangudara were first thinned using bifacial flaking and then retouched. It is no coincidence that a heart-shaped biface was found here. The Karangudara people mastered the skills of bifacial technology as early as the middle palaeolithic era. This suggests the existence of a separate cultural tradition in the region, distinct from other neighbouring contemporary groups. In addition, a number of other sites have been identified in southern Uzbekistan that indicate a denser population in the Boysun mountains during the palaeolithic era.
