The multifaceted talent of Ahmad Makhdum Donish (1827-1897) wasexpressed not only in the field of fine arts, he first wrote a treatise on “Shashmaqom”.And he himself found himself at the center of this society, since his talent was in demandby the Bukhara elite. Thus, one of the facets of his talent was poetry and music (“she’r vamusiqi”), which were inseparable in the musical repertoire of the Maverannahr (Bukhara).It is important that Akhmad Makhdumi Donish made a significant contribution to thedevelopment of musical and poetic art during the reign of the dynasty Mangyts (1756-1920),which at that time relied on the singing of Tajik-Persian poetic texts and Tajik-Persianwriting. Unfortunately, in domestic and foreign studies there are very few works on themusical-performing (musical-poetic) culture of the era of Ahmad Makhdumi Donish,on his role in the development of musical culture of this period.However, the sources discovered in recent years by the author of this articlemake it possible to explore this topic somewhat more deeply, to illuminate not only theappearance of Akhmad Makhdumi Donish himself, but also the features of the musicallife of Maverannahr (Bukhara and Samarqand) in the late 19th - early 20th centuries.
