The article provides an in-depth exploration of the Ustoz–Shogird (Master–Apprentice) tradition as a cornerstone of Uzbekistan’s musical culture, particularly within the context of Maqam performance. This ancient pedagogical model, deeply rooted in Eastern civilization, represents not only the transmission of musical skills but also the moral, aesthetic, and spiritual education of successive generations. The study emphasizes that the Ustoz–Shogird relationship goes beyond the conventional teacher–student dynamic, encompassing the formation of artistic individuality, ethical awareness, and creative thinking. Key components of musical performance — talent, knowledge, improvisation, diction, ensemble collaboration, and stage artistry — are analyzed as integral parts of this system. Through the artistic legacies of Halima Nosirova, Turgun Alimatov, and Komiljon Otaniyozov, the author demonstrates how the Ustoz–Shogird tradition has preserved the essence of national music while fostering its evolution. The article also discusses the adaptation of this model to the modern educational environment, where traditional mentorship harmoniously coexists with academic instruction and digital learning technologies. In the age of globalization and cultural transformation, the Ustoz–Shogird system remains a vital instrument for sustaining Uzbekistan’s national identity, artistic continuity, and the creative development of new generations of musicians, ensuring that the timeless dialogue between tradition and innovation endures.
