Chronic carbon monoxide exposure results in persistent tissue hypoxia and induces structural alterations in renal tissue, particularly within the glomerular and tubular compartments of the nephron. The present study aimed to evaluate morphometric characteristics of hypoxia-induced renal tissue alterations following chronic carbon monoxide exposure. The study was performed on 3- and 9-month-old male albino rats. Histological and morphometric analyses were conducted to determine glomerular diameter, Bowman's capsule space, proximal and distal tubular diameters, epithelial height, and interstitial area. Morphometric evaluation demonstrated glomerular remodeling, enlargement of Bowman's capsule space, reduction of tubular epithelial height, and expansion of the interstitial compartment in experimental animals. These findings indicate that morphometric assessment provides objective quantitative evidence of hypoxia-induced structural damage in renal tissue and may improve the evaluation of chronic toxic kidney injury.
