Chronic carbon monoxide exposure induces persistent tissue hypoxia, resulting in structural remodeling of the kidney. The severity of renal injury largely depends on age-related adaptive capacity of the nephron. The present study aimed to evaluate age-related morphological alterations of renal tissue following chronic carbon monoxide exposure. The study was carried out on 3- and 9-month-old male albino rats. Histological and morphometric analyses were performed to assess glomerular architecture, Bowman's capsule space, tubular morphology, and interstitial tissue. The results demonstrated that renal alterations in 3-month-old animals were predominantly adaptive, whereas 9-month-old rats exhibited more pronounced glomerular remodeling, widening of Bowman's capsule space, tubular epithelial degeneration, and interstitial expansion. Morphometric analysis confirmed that the severity of hypoxia-induced structural remodeling increased with age.
