Relevance. Diabetic macular edema (DME) is a serious complication of diabetes. Purpose of the study: to evaluate the effectiveness of the combined treatment of DME, combining injections of anti-VEGF drugs and SMPLE. Material and methods. The study included 68 eyes with DME on the background of non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR). Group I (17 eyes) received SMILV as monotherapy. Group II (23 eyes) received anti-VEGF therapy. Group III (28 eyes) received: SMILV + anti-VEGF therapy (once + "as needed"). Results and conclusion: During the observation period of 12 months: in patients of group I, BCVA was 0.64±0.03 (p<0.05), in group II 0.74±0.03 (p<0.01), in group III 0.76 ±0.03(p<0.01). In group I, OCT values were 286.5±17.9 μm (p<0.05), in group II 269.4±18.7 μm (p<0.01), in group III 260.4±16, 3 μm (p<0.01). In 3 patients (13.0%) of group II, in 10 patients (71.5%) of group III, a single injection of an anti-VEGF drug was sufficient, the rest of the patients needed repeated injections during 12 months of observation. Combined treatment for DME with a central retinal thickness of less than 400 μm is effective, and the combination of these methods significantly reduces the number of these injections.
