The Medici family was a dynasty of Florentine bankers that played a significant role in the development of Renaissance culture. This article examines the influence of the Medici family on the development of Florence, as well as the process through which they accumulated economic power through banking activities and transformed financial resources into instruments of political and cultural influence. The study analyzes the activities of the early representatives of the dynasty, Giovanni di Bicci and Cosimo de’ Medici, who laid the foundations for the family’s political rise. Particular attention is paid to the patronage policy of Lorenzo de’ Medici, during whose rule the cultural influence of the dynasty reached its peak.
