The article describes the reasons and consequences of the mass deportation of one of the peoples of the Caucasus - Kalmyks during the Second World War. The author relies on relatively new data to explain the reasons for the deportation of Kalmyks. The study revealed that because of the crimes of individuals, an entire nation was deported. The author also provides some information about the conditions created for the resettlement of Kalmyks in the resettled territories.
