Annotatsiya

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the transformation of metaphor from a traditional rhetorical and stylistic device into an object of modern cognitive-semantic research. It argues that metaphor is not merely a figurative means of embellishing speech but also a fundamental mechanism underlying human cognition, conceptualization, and the construction of the cognitive worldview. Drawing on the works of Uzbek and international linguists, the study examines the key principles of Cognitive Metaphor Theory. Particular attention is paid to the ways abstract concepts are structured through concrete experiences, as well as to the comparative analysis of the national and cultural characteristics of somatic phraseological units in Uzbek and English. The article also explores the role of conceptual mapping in constructing an individual authorial worldview within literary texts. The findings confirm that metaphor is a complex cognitive phenomenon reflecting the intricate relationship between language, thought, and culture.
