«Ziziphora clinopodioides» Lam. is a medicinally valuable aromatic plant distributed across Central Asia, including Uzbekistan's mountain regions (Samarkand, Kashkadarya, Zomin). Despite its traditional use, the phytochemical composition of Uzbek populations remains uncharacterized. This review establishes a predictive framework for chemotypic differentiation by synthesizing global evidence on ecological and genetic drivers of chemical variability in this species. Altitude, temperature, soil, and high inter-population genetic diversity (98.31% polymorphic loci) are identified as primary determinants of essential oil and phenolic profiles. We hypothesize that Samarkand populations (moderate altitude) exhibit a pulegone-dominant chemotype, Kashkadarya populations (warmer lowlands) show increased 1,8-cineole and thymol as heat-stress adaptations, and Zomin mountain populations (high altitude) demonstrate elevated 1,8-cineole, terpinen-4-ol, and total phenolic compounds as responses to UV and oxidative stress. These predicted differences have direct implications for origin-based quality control, therapeutic application, and conservation strategies. This framework provides essential groundwork for future phytochemical characterization of «Z. clinopodioides» in Uzbekistan.
