The root-mean-square displacement of atoms in the new cubic refractory alloy Ti070Mo030C has been determined by the methods of least squares and full-profile analysis based on neutron diffraction data. The values of the root-mean-square displacements of atoms in this alloy, obtained by two methods, are identical. They turned out to be much higher than in similar cubic stoichiometric TiC and TiN alloys. It is shown that the same tendency is also observed for the TiC0.50N0.50 and TiC0.30N0.70 alloys. The observed difference in the values of the root-meansquare values of the atoms is explained by the appearance of large static distortions in the latlattice of the Ti0.70Mo0.30C alloy due to the difference in configurations of the outer valence elec electrons Ti (3d24s2) and Mo (4d55s1), and in the TiC0.50N0.50 and TiC0.30N0.70 alloys due to the difference in configurations of the outer valence electrons of C (2s22p2) and N (2s22p3) atoms.
