This article examines one of the most pressing issues in contemporary literary criticism: the category of discourse. Drawing on the achievements of modern philological scholarship and analyzing the works of domestic and foreign scholars, the author reveals the specific relationships and interrelations between literary discourse and artistic text, identifying their differences. Considerable attention is paid to the nature and functions of discourse in the structure of a work.
