This article analyzes the functional and stylistic features of modal words in literary style. Theaesthetic value of modal words in a literary text and their role in creating ironic content are showed. In it, various functions of modal words, in particular, the importance of creating stylistic figures such as irony, sarcasm,irony and antiphrasis, are analyzed based on excerpts from the works of writers. In addition, the role of modalwords in increasing the effectiveness of the artistic text, characterizing the character’s speech and expressingthe author’s aesthetic intention is substantiated by scientific sources.
