Katagans are one of the ancient tribes that played an important role in the ethnogenesis of the uzbek people. For many centuries they lived over vast territories from the foothills of the Hindukush to the Far East. This led to the participation of many turkic peoples in their formation. They had great influence among the uzbek, kazakh, kyrgyz and mongolian peoples. This article highlights the history of katagans based on an analysis of historical sources and scientific literature.
