Currently, to enhance the positive socio-economic impact of tourism development and mitigate its negative consequences, there is a significant emphasis on modern research, establishing a scientific and theoretical foundation for the sustainable development of the tourism sector. This involves studying the tourism sector as a crucial factor in sustainable development, exploring factors that contribute to its competitiveness. The field has emerged as a new and intricate area of economic research. Consequently, there is an urgent need to stimulate economic growth in tourism, enhance the competitiveness of rural tourism in the national economy, and explore tourism as a catalyst for improving incomes and living standards. This article focuses on such issues as the sustainable development of the tourism sector in Uzbekistan, along with the scientific and theoretical foundations and historiography of the concept of rural tourism.
