The Katagans were considered a large Uzbek tribe. Their main places of residence were the south of modern Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and the northeastern regions of Afghanistan. The Katagans led a semi-nomadic and semi-sedentary lifestyle. Therefore, their traditional economy consisted of agriculture, gardening, animal husbandry and crafts. In some villages the population was engaged in hunting and fishing. This article describes the settlement and traditional economy of the Uzbek-Katagans in the late XIX - early XIX centuries.
