The article analyzes the stages of formation and development of civil society institutions in Uzbekistan. Civil society institutions, being nongovernmental non-profit organizations, do not belong to the state, do not engage in commerce, but take part in governing the state and in exercising public control over state power structures. The main task of NGOs is to protect democratic values, rights and freedoms of citizens. Their main activity is to provide assistance in the social, economic and humanitarian spheres, in connection with which their role is increasing.
