The resource of fast-reading scintillator LuAG:Pr single crystals used in detectors for high-energyphysics is limited by fast neutron fluences ≥1016 cm−2 due to the accumulation of defect color centers. The purpose of this work is to investigate the possibility of converting these spent scintillation detectorsinto thermoluminescent dosimeters through radiation and thermal treatment. The initial LuAG:Prsingle crystals were irradiated with a fast neutron fluency of 1017 cm−2 in the WWR-SM reactor andthermally treated for bleaching, then subjected to 60Co γ-irradiation at 310 K and a dose rate of 0.064Gy/s in the dose range 6.4÷70.4 Gy. The influence of the charge carrier accumulation kinetics on theactivator glow was studied using γ-luminescence (GL), optical absorption spectroscopy and integralthermoluminescence curves (TLC) at 300−605 K. It was shown that after the fluency of 1017 cm−2,heat treatment and the γ-dose of 770 Gy, a decrease in the intensity of the 310 nm GL band of Pr3+ by~50% is associated with trapping holes at Pr3+ with transition to Pr4+ and electrons at defect centers F+and VO (Cdop)/F2+. The resulting linear growth of the TL peak at 440 K and the preservation of themaximum temperature with increasing γ-dose 13→70.4 Gy is due to the release of charge carriersfrom these deep traps. The accumulated light sum in spent LuAG:Pr is stable when held for 5 hours at310 K. These characteristics are necessary for thermoluminescent dosimetry.
