The review explores recent advancements in aluminum-ion battery technology, focusing on innovations in cathode materials, electrolyte chemistry, and performance enhancement. Notable developments include new cathode materials like activated carbon and graphene composites, which improve surface area, conductivity, and overall battery performance. Advances in electrolyte formulations, particularly AlCl3-based ionic liquids, have optimized ion transport and stabilized electrochemical processes, extending cycle life and reliability. Studies on ion intercalation mechanisms using density functional theory and molecular dynamics have provided insights into electrode transformations during charge-discharge cycles, aiding in the design of cathode materials with higher ion storage capacities and improved cyclability. These advancements highlight AIBs' potential as a promising alternative for large-scale energy storage applications.
