Growing crystals using laser heating

Annotatsiya

The results of observations of the crystallization front during the growth of leucosapphire single crystals by the Czochralski, Verneuil and zone melting methods were carried out. The studies were carried out using a high-temperature microscope with laser heating. The movements of gas inclusions in the solid phase at high temperature gradients were observed for the first time. The reasons for the occurrence of gas inclusions are indicated and a new interpretation of the mechanism of particle capture by the crystallization front is given. Thus, the use of laser heating expands the capabilities of crucible-free crystallization methods of refractory oxides and allows to visual observate crystal growth processes.
