Model of a heterogeneous reaction of molecular dissociation on metal surfaces

Adsorption and surface ionization of molecules of diatomic alkali halide salts and various classes of organic compounds on the surfaces of oxidized tungsten and molybdenum were studied by non-stationary methods of voltage modulation and flow modulation under uniform experimental conditions using a high-vacuum mass spectrometric installation using a “black chamber” all the walls of which are cooled liquid nitrogen. The rate constants K+ and K0, the activation energy E+ and E0 of thermal desorption, as well as the rate constants Kd and the activation energy Ed of the heterogeneous reaction of dissociation of molecules on tungsten and molybdenum surfaces were determined. Based on the research results obtained, a model of the heterogeneous reaction of dissociation of molecules on metal surfaces is proposed.
