Totemism is based on the belief in the origin of man from an animal, plant or inanimate object. Among the Turkic-speaking peoples, the worship of animals was formed at the first stages of the formation and development of the ethnos. The purpose of our work is to show what place the image of the wolf occupies in the totemistic and mythological views of the Turkic peoples of Altai, Yakutia, Khakassia, Bashkiria, the Caucasus, Central Asia, as well as among the Mongols, Khazars and Chinese. This problem has been studied by such scientists as N. Ya. Bichurin, L. Gumilev, F. Urmancheev, S. Pletneva, A. Abdurakhmanov, L. Tekeyeva and others. In the article, based on a review of literature and sources, the definition of totemism is given, the attitude towards the wolf in the ethnoculture of the Turkic peoples is considered. The veneration of the wolf in the religious and ethnomythological views of the Turkic peoples, as well as the ceremonies and rituals associated with it, are analyzed.
