Cystatin-C is an endogenous protein of low molecular weight, produced in all nucleated cells, and excreted from the body only through the kidneys. It does not accumulate in the blood vessels, tissues and proximal tubules after excretion, and is completely excreted by the kidneys. It is this property of Cystatin-C that prevents the development of Diabetic Nephropathy (DN), which is one of the 4 complications that seriously affect the quality of life of patients with diabetes, by other methods (creatinine, urea, microproteinuria and their patient age, gender, body combined formulas based on indicators such as weight...) with higher accuracy and reliable diagnosis even in the initial (hidden) period of the development of diabetic nephropathy. Because in the synthesis and excretion of Cystatin-C, indicators such as race, age, gender, body weight of the patient are not important. Therefore, KDIGO experts consider the method of calculation together with Cystatin-C to be the most preferred method for calculating eGFR.
