Surgical treatment of postoperative ventral hernias of the anterior abdominal wall remains one of the urgent problems of clinical surgery. According to current statistical data, postoperative hernias develop in 5–14% of patients after laparotomy. Due to the increasing volume and number of abdominal surgical interventions, as well as the growing number of repeated operations, especially among elderly patients, the incidence of postoperative ventral hernias continues to rise annually. Closure of anterior abdominal wall defects using local tissues by traditional methods does not always provide favorable outcomes. This is particularly true in cases of large defects, when repair with local tissues under tension may lead to the development of intra-abdominal compartment syndrome. After such operations, hernia recurrence is observed in approximately 30–60% of cases. It is well known that in recent years, endoprosthetic tension-free methods have been increasingly used for the repair of large hernial defects of the anterior abdominal wall. Following the implementation of these surgical treatment methods, the recurrence rate has decreased to 6–10%. Annotation:According to modern literature data, postoperative hernias develop in 5–14% of patients after laparotomy. With the increasing number of repeated surgical interventions, especially among elderly patients, the incidence of postoperative ventral hernias rises from year to year. A total of 135 patients with postoperative ventral hernias were observed and underwent surgical treatment. Among them, 25 were men and 110 were women. Tension-free hernioplasty using the “inlay” technique was performed in 21 patients, while the “onlay” technique was used in 101 patients. Hernioplasty using local tissues with musculofascial-aponeurotic duplication was performed in 13 patients.
