The article reveals the features of the reflection of spoken English based on the analysis of J. Ayto “Dictionary of Slang”. Particular attention is paid to revealing the implicit meaning of colloquialisms in the study of etymological data, semantic changes under the influence of linguocultural features, and new trends in word change. Semantic changes are studied taking into account linguistic and extralinguistic factors. The author conducts a thorough analysis of the current state of the lexical- semantic level based on colloquial words in American, British and Australian English. A study is conducted of colloquial words classified as spoken vocabulary, as well as colloquialisms with different stylistic overtones. It is of interest to identify words with different connotations and assign them to different thematic groups. The influence of territorial and temporal factors on the formation of symbolic meaning is noted.
