Annotatsiya

This research considers how the Turkish tourism advertisements shape a rhetoric of the “perfect holiday” through language and cognition. This project explores the relationship between language, rhetoric and multimodal affordances affecting tourist perceptions, emotions and behavior through findings in cognitive linguistics, discourse analysis, and tourism studies. It employs evaluative language, persuasive adjectives, metaphors and story format in order to create culturally shared understandings of relaxation, luxury, authenticity & escape. We employ a mixed-method methodology with qualitative discourse analysis, corpus-based methods, and multimodal analysis complemented by neuroscience instruments. This framework reveals the complex interplay among visual, verbal and affective dimensions in destination images. Text-image convergence is important for mental imagery, as faster image retrieval from linguistic input leads to stronger emotive content and more attractive destination desirability. This study contributes to the literature by exploring persuasive techniques with respect to Turkish TAs, and identifying that neurotourism can inform implicit cognitive and affective responses. Strategically framed and coded linguistic and multimodal text could influence the travel intentions of travelers by presenting seductive scenarios of vacation imagery.
