Uzbekistan has been mentioned in a number of historical sources since ancient times as a land inhabited by people with diverse cultures, languages, customs and ways of life, professing various religions and confessions.Uzbekistan is a multinational, multi-confessional state. In such a country, interethnic harmony and religious tolerance are among the main conditions for ensuring socio-political stability and development. Therefore, religious tolerance is one of the main principles of the democratic society being built in our country. After all, in our country’, 16 religious denominations operate in conditions of mutual tolerance and harmony.The article examines the historical foundations of religious tolerance in Uzbekistan. It also analyzes the historical processes of the spread of representatives of such religious confessions as Buddhism. Judaism, Zoroastrianism and Christianity to our country.
