Annotatsiya

In the world of Islam, along with such Imams as al-Bukhari, at-Termizi, al-Maturidi and others, Imam Abu Bakr Kaffal Shashi (904-977) occupies a special place among the numerous scholars who were awarded the title "Imam ”. Contemporaries respectfully called him "Hazrat Imam ”.His full name is Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn AH ibn Ismail Kaffal Shashi. In Arab sources, the word "Kabir” ("big, ” "great ”) is added as a sign of respect and honor to his name. Initially, he was a skillful artisan who made locks and therefore later his profession became a prefix to his name "Kaffal”, i.e. "locksmith”.This article examines the life and scholarly work of Kaffal Shashi, based on medieval Arabic primary sources. Medieval Arabic authors called Kaffal Shashi a great scholar. He was the Imam of his time, and also an indispensable and incomparable scholar in such fields of Islamic science as fiqh, hadith, the fundamentals of fiqh (us и I), and linguistics. The name of Kaffal Shashi is known in both the Maghreb (West) and the Mashriq (East).
