The article is devoted to the actualization of the concept “social status” in the phraseology system of diverse and unrelated languages. The focus is on the analysis of how linguistic means reflect socio-stratification relations, expressing ideas about status, prestige, power, work and moral values of the individual. The author considers phraseological units as an important tool for recording and evaluating social differences, as well as a mechanism for transmitting cultural and historical meanings. The work highlights the interdisciplinary nature of the concept under study, combining the approaches of sociology, linguistics and cultural studies. Phraseology is considered not only as an element of language, but also as a mirror of the social structure, which reflects the values of society and collective consciousness. Comparative analysis has shown that phraseological systems of different languages have both common features associated with the universal understanding of social inequality, and national-specific features due to historical development and cultural traditions. The methodological basis consists of component, cognitive, and pragmalinguistic analysis combined with contrastive and translational approaches. Thus, phraseological units act as an important linguistic and cultural means representing a person’s social position and forming his image in the collective linguistic memory.
