This scientific article explores emotiveness as a functional-semantic category in linguistics, analyzing how emotions are expressed through language. The author examines various scholarly perspectives on emotiveness, particularly focusing on the distinctions between “emotivity”, “emotionality”, and “expressiveness - terms often used interchangeably but possessing important conceptual differences. Through detailed analysis of works by prominent linguists including Shakhovskiy, Piotrovskaya, and Mechkovskaya, the study clarifies the specific characteristics of emotiveness as a linguistic category and its differentiation from other language units. The research investigates the emotive function of language units and the mechanisms that facilitate the creation of emotional speech acts. Special attention is given to the terminological complexities in the field of emotion studies, where psychological and linguistic concepts frequently intersect. The article also explores the relationship between emotiveness and evaluation, modality, and connotation, demonstrating how emotional content is structured within language at various      levels - from lexical to syntactic.
