This article explores the role of collaborative learning in fostering student-centered classrooms. Collaborative learning, defined as structured peer-to-peer interaction oriented toward shared goals, is deeply aligned with constructivist and socio-cultural theories that position learning as a social process. Drawing on theoretical foundations articulated by Dewey, Vygotsky, and Freire, as well as empirical syntheses by Johnson and Johnson, Slavin, Hattie, and others, the article examines how collaborative learning promotes student autonomy, engagement, and higher-order thinking. Evidence suggests that when implemented with clear structure and accountability, collaborative learning enhances achievement, motivation, and equity by valuing multiple voices and fostering interdependence. Challenges such as unequal participation, classroom management, and alignment with assessment policies are also considered. The article concludes that collaborative learning is a cornerstone of student-centered pedagogy, requiring intentional design, teacher facilitation, and institutional support.
