This article discusses various approaches to working with texts and presents exercises aimed at developing reading and speaking skills of foreign students learning Russian as a foreign language. The author emphasizes that the design of tasks should take into account learners’ individual abilities and their current level of language proficiency. The study outlines the main goals and objectives of the teacher, highlighting his or her role in organizing the learning process and motivating students to engage actively. Special attention is given to the principles of working with texts, including the careful selection of materials, strategies for reading and interpretation, as well as methods of classroom discussion. The article also considers the rules of reading technique, such as correct pronunciation, intonation, and comprehension, which play a key role in forming reading competence. Furthermore, the importance of communicative tasks such as retelling, answering questions, and participating in discussions is underlined. Overall, the article demonstrates that systematic work with texts fosters not only language competence but also critical thinking and cultural awareness among foreign students. In addition, it highlights the practical significance of such approaches, since they support learners’ successful adaptation to a Russian-speaking environment, enrich their vocabulary, and encourage them to apply acquired knowledge in real-life communicative situations.
