This study presents a comprehensive morphological and comparative analysis of causative markers in the English language in contrast to agglutinative languages, particularly Turkish and Japanese. The author emphasizes that morphological causatives – verbs formed through affixation of non-causative stems – function regularly and productively in agglutinative languages. This is exemplified by stable suffixes such as -t, -ir in Turkish and -sase in Japanese, whose primary function is to express causation. In English, although suffixes like -ize and -ate, as well as prefixes en- and be-, can convey causative meaning, they are not specialized causative morphemes. Their meanings are polysemous and often result from borrowings alongside lexical stems from Latin and French, which leads to semantic ambiguity and limited productivity. Moreover, affixation in English is generally much less widespread than in agglutinative languages, owing to the language’s historical evolution toward analyticism and a reduced role of inflection. Consequently, causation in English is primarily conveyed through syntactic means, while morphological causatives occupy a peripheral position and lack the regularity and functional transparency characteristic of agglutinative systems.
